VICON IN THE MALL

Surveyor dome cameras and Aurora multiplexers from Vicon Industries
controlled by a Vicon Nova matrix system have recently been installed at
Touchwood Court, a brand-new shopping and entertainment venue in Solihull
which is widely regarded as the finest shopping location in the Midlands.
The installation has been performed by ADT Birmingham.

At 650,000 sq. ft., Touchwood Court is comprised of John Lewis' only West Midlands store, 80 other shops including Gant and French Connection, over 20 restaurants and bars and a 9-screen cinema.

The Vicon dome cameras are the Surveyor 2000 model. These feature three-phase micro-stepping motors and a proprietary software driver which delivers smooth and silent operation through the entire range of speeds from 0.25°/sec to 300°/sec. The units have self-learn tours which simplify programming and allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.

The design features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements.

Touchwood Court offers contemporary retail stores within the tradition of English arcades. Its unique arcades are designed as an extension of Solihull's existing high street, and were modelled on the famous arcades of London’s Piccadilly and Burlington arcades.

The Vicon AurorA range of multiplexers is offering security staff at Touchwood exceptional image quality. Intelligent updating on the units refreshes the live display and the output to the VCR more often for cameras observing motion in the shopping centre than for those reporting on static objects, and the higher refresh rates enhance the traditional multi-screen viewing by enabling real-time viewing of one or more of the cameras displayed.

Touchwood Court is jointly owned by two major UK institutions, Lend Lease Europe Ltd. and the Lend Lease Retail Partnership. The architect for the project was Eric Khune and the main civil engineers were Lend Lease Construction.
