Village People

Surveyor dome cameras from Vicon Industries together with the company's VPS1344 matrix system have recently been installed at the Ashford Retail Village in Kent.

The Ashford Retail Village is a designer outlet located near to the Ashford international railway station, an important junction for Eurostar. The Vicon equipment was specified by the client, BAA McArthurGlen, after the units proved highly effective at a similar project, the £70m Livingston designer outlet in Scotland.

Vicon engineers were asked to build special bracketry in order that their Surveyor dome cameras could fit onto the transoms between glass frontages at the Ashford designer village.

Central to the Ashford installation is a Vicon VPS1344 control and switching system. This matrix is receiving widespread endorsement for its ability to simplify the design and installation of complex security installations. The unit offers intuitive software to control switching, pan, tilt, zoom lens, auxiliary functions, and alarm functions. Vicon's high-density card cage can accommodate up to 16 video switcher cards of eight video inputs each, for a maximum card cage capacity of 128 camera inputs.

The Ashford Retail Village is already a financial success and has attracted significant interest. As well as CCTV equipment, the installers, ADT, also installed fire protection equipment including an analogue addressable alarm system across the 114 shop units. Famous names at the village include Nike, Reebok Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hillfiger. Individual specialist consultants were appointed for various aspects of the project. Of these, JBA Associates, the electrical consultants, worked closely with ADT and Vicon.
