Pan & tilts together with Surveyor dome cameras from Vicon Industries are about to be installed at a prestigious new swimming and leisure complex, the Aqua Centre, in Aylesbury.
The Aqua Centre will feature three swimming pools: an eight-lane 25metre competition pool, a fun pool for younger users and an outdoor lido with a direct link to the internal facilities. The competition pool has received Lottery grants and is likely to receive additional funding in the wake of the poor showing of British swimmers at the Sydney Olympics.
The pole-mounted pan & tilts are Vicon's Vistar 35 model. The units have a capacity of 35 lbs and are constructed of rugged weatherproof sand-cast aluminium. Preset position, continuous rotation and heater models are available where required. The heavy-duty motors feature hardened steel gear trains that require minimal oiling.
The complex is also benefiting from Vicon's Surveyor dome cameras. These dome cameras offer three-phase micro-stepping motors and benefit from a proprietary software driver which delivers smooth and silent operation through the entire range of speeds from 0.25°/sec to 300°/sec. The units have self-learn tours which simplify programming and allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.
The design of the Vicon Surveyor dome cameras features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements.
The Aylesbury Pool leisure complex also boasts an extensive gymnasium and a dance studio. There are extensive car-parking and restaurant facilities. The main building contractors are Willmott Dixon. Serco Ltd are the management contractors and the architects are FaulknerBrowns. Construction is about three-quarters complete and running to schedule. An interesting feature will be a mural project on the site's perimeter. The facilities will open in the spring of 2001.
