Vicon Industries are supplying Surveyor dome cameras, pan & tilts and matrix units to the £113m Millennium Point project in Birmingham.
Millennium Point is a technology and educational centre on a 12-acre site adjacent
to Birminghams world-famous Bull Ring shopping centre. The complex will contribute significantly to the regeneration of the Digbeth area of Birmingham.
The project will be benefiting from Vicons Nova V1422 digital control and matrix switcher system. This is a CPU-based unit which is self-contained and allows for up to 32 camera inputs and 8 monitor outputs. The product is shipped with ProTech Graphic Configurator Software and an additional RS-232 port provides an output to a printer for printing alarm incident records.
Millennium Point will include The Discovery Centre, an interactive science and technology museum, The University of the First Age, an extra-curricular learning initiative for young people, together with an area known as The Hub which will feature cafés, restaurants, leisure facilities and public squares. The complex will include the regions first IMAX cinema.
Vicon have also supplied their ViStar heavy-duty pan and tilt drives to the project. These are weatherproof units that are capable of operating with a load of 35 pounds (16kg.) The heavy-duty motors are constructed with hardened steel gear trains that require minimal user maintenance. All weather protection is provided by O rings and gasket seals.
All the facilities will be housed within the 43,000 sq ms Millennium Point landmark building which is supported by the Millennium Commission. A portion of the funding has come from EC urban regeneration grants. The civil engineer for the project is Mace and the architects are Graham and Partners.
