Vicon's in Holborn

Surveyor dome cameras from Vicon Industries will shortly be installed at a major office development in London, 33 Holborn Place.

The project is a 40,000 sq ft commercial building on 10 floors. Floors 1 thru 8 will be used as office accommodation on an open-plan basis. Holborn Place also features an auditorium and lecture theatre together with restaurant facilities and a large gymnasium.

Extensive use is being made of Vicon's Surveyor dome cameras. These offer three-phase micro-stepping motors and benefit from a proprietary software driver which delivers smooth and silent operation through the entire range of speeds from 0.25°/sec to 300°/sec. The units have self-learn tours, which simplify programming and allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.

The design features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements.

The CCTV installer for the project is ADT. ADT have placed the Vicon cameras in heritage-style housings so that the 1930s period feel of the area is retained.

Holborn Place has a stunning, full-height glazed atrium, which opens out onto Holborn Circus and allows views into the heart of the building. The street-level environment is being significantly enhanced and revitalized with shops, cafes and bars. The architect is Foster and Partners who have worked in association with the Yolles Partnership Ltd, Hilson Moran Partnership Ltd and Jolyon Drury Consultancy. Construction is running to schedule and the building is expected to open at Christmas.
