VICON IN BOURNEMOUTH

Dome cameras together with a 48-way matrix from Vicon Industries have
recently been installed at Portman House, the purpose-built head office of
the Portman Building Society in Bournemouth.

Vicon’s Surveyor 2000 dome camera model is part of a tried and tested range
with an excellent pedigree. The design features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements. The units have self-learn tours which allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.

The CCTV installation was carried out by ADT (Portsmouth) and was completed earlier this year. The principal civil engineer for the construction work was Hayden Young while mechanical and electrical services were supervised by Skanska. The CCTV installation is being complemented by ADT’s Minerva analogue addressable fire system.

The architect, London-based Fitzroy Robinson, have particular expertise in low energy “green” buildings. The master plan ensured that Portman House incorporates many energy efficient features such as solar control window glazing. The building has been constructed around a central core with two wings and was designed to complement other developments in the area.

Mr Gary Taylor, a Senior Project Manager at ADT comments: “We have been using Vicon equipment for some years and are attracted to the product range as a result of its functionality and build quality. It has proved useful to be able to cater for the varied CCTV needs of our customers through a single supplier without concerns as to compatibility between the various components.”

The control room in Portman House is benefiting from Vicon’s V1344 high-density programmable control and matrix switching system from the Nova series. At Bournemouth the matrix is accommodating 48 camera inputs and 8 monitor outputs but the unit has a 128 input by 24 output maximum capacity.

The V1344 features a graphical PC configurator. It can significantly simplify the design and installation of complex security installations such as Portman House, exploiting software which includes camera-to-monitor partitioning and monitor-to-keypad partitioning.

The Portman Building Society dates from 1846 and is the third oldest building society in the UK. It is also the largest regional society in the south of England with assets exceeding £9billion. The Portman is the Corporate Benefactor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
