A wide range of dome cameras, multiplexers and monitors from Vicon Industries have been installed at Southampton Football Clubs £32 million, 32,000-seater Friends Provident St Marys Stadium.
The installation was carried out by South West Communications. The new stadium has allowed the Saints to achieve gates of around 30,000 so boosting the clubs income and sustaining them in the Premiership.
Vicons Surveyor dome cameras are monitoring the concourse area at the stadium. The Surveyor 2000 model is part of a tried and tested range with an excellent pedigree. The design features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements. The units have self-learn tours which allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.
The Friends Provident St Marys Stadium provides 47 executive boxes, banqueting for 500 and a sponsors lounge with a capacity of 120 together with further hospitality suites . A permanent facility is available throughout the year for conferences, seminars, product launches and training days.
South West Communications are a prominent consultant and installer. Mr Richard Frost of South West comments: The Friends Provident St Marys Stadium is a state-of-the art arena built to a very high specification. Many of the locations for the CCTV cameras were situated in hard to reach areas. Vicon proved the perfect answer in terms of high specification and durability.
The control room at The Friends Provident St Marys Stadium features a Vicon V1344 high-density programmable control and matrix switching system from the Nova series. At Southampton the matrix is accommodating 32 camera inputs and 8 monitor outputs but the unit has a 128 input by 24 output maximum capacity. The V1344 features a graphical PC configurator. It can significantly simplify the design and installation of complex security installations, exploiting software which includes camera-to-monitor partitioning and monitor-to-keypad partitioning.
