VICON AT FESTIVAL PLACE

Vicon Industries are supplying their Surveyor dome cameras, Aurora 2000 Duplex colour multiplexers and V1400X system console to the £340m Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke in an installation which is being performed by ADT Portsmouth.

Festival Place opens in October 2002 and will feature a million sq ft of retail shopping area, a 10-screen cinema, 13 restaurants and 3,000 car parking spaces. The centre will also form part of the local infrastructure and a bus station is being incorporated into the site. The anchor retailers are Debenhams and BHS with other notable names including Gap, and H & M.

Security and facility managers at Festival Place will be making extensive use of the Vicon Aurora 2000 Duplex colour multiplexers. These units offer industry leading screen refresh rates of 30 or 60 images per second while a rate of 90 images per second is available from the simplex versions of the Aurora 2000. Intelligent updating refreshes the live display and the output to the VCR more frequently for cameras observing motion than those observing static objects.

The Vicon dome cameras that will be used at Festival Place are the Surveyor 2000 model. These feature three-phase micro-stepping motors and a proprietary software driver which delivers smooth and silent operation through the entire range of speeds from 0.25°/sec to 300°/sec. The units have self-learn tours that simplify programming and allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.

The existing shopping centre in Basingstoke, “The Walks” is being integrated into the new development. Architects Lyon, Sleeman Hoare (LSH) are employing innovative materials including much limestone flooring, glass and cherry wood.
