Internal and external dome cameras from Vicon Industries together with an Aurora matrix will shortly be supplied to the Citystars Heliopolis project in Cairo. The development is costing $650m and includes an 840-room five star hotel, a large retail shopping mall, 70,000 m2 of office space, a medical services centre and residential apartments.
Vicon have secured the contract through its close contacts with local partner, the Orascom Security Systems Group. Orascom is a major distributor of Vicon CCTV and surveillance equipment in Egypt.
The site will be benefiting from Vicon’s 1400 Nova matrix. This unit is a micro-processor-based system that can control 2,048 cameras by 128 monitors, a capacity which can easily accommodate even projects as vast as Citystars. All of Vicon’s Nova matrices are supplied with a graphical configurator based around Protech software which enables the CCTV system to be configured using a standard PC.
Citystars will become the largest private sector urban development project ever undertaken in Egypt. Outside of the USA and Canada, it will be the second biggest shopping centre in the world, dwarfing sites such as the UK’s Bluewater Park. 10,000 jobs have been created during the construction of the complex which will be owned by Golden Pyramids Plaza SAE. The site has Avaya fibre-optic and Cat 6 cabling throughout and computer and telephony services will be leading-edge.
Over 400 of Vicon’s Surveyor 2000 dome cameras will be installed throughout the site. These are the latest version of a well established and widely endorsed advanced dome system. The units have self-learn tours which simplify programming and allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.
The design features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements.
