VICON IN THE MALL IN REYKJAVIK

Internal and external dome cameras from Vicon Industries together with the company’s 1466 Matrix are forming the core of a £150k security installation at the Smaralind Leisure and Shopping centre in Reykjavik.

The complex is located to the south of the city and attracted 45,000 people on its first day of operation. The west of the centre is anchored by a Debenhams store and the main mall includes outlets such as Zara, Nike, Timberland and The Body Shop.

Smaralind features Vicon’s Surveyor 2000 dome cameras which are being used both internally and externally. The Surveyor 2000 is part of a tried and tested range with an excellent pedigree. The design features a drive mechanism that can be operated independently from the housing, so allowing installers an easy way to test functionality prior to permanent mounting. Extensive menu-based programming configures each unit to individual requirements. The units have self-learn tours which allow for in-sequence editing and reverse touring.

Vicon secured the contract through its close contacts with local partner, Securitas, who acted as consultant and installer on the project. Securitas is a leading security company in Iceland specializing in intrusion, access, CCTV and fire alarm systems.

The Smaralind centre is located in the southern suburbs of Reykjavik within a brand-new residential development in the Lindar area. The architect is the London-based practice, BDP.

The site will be also be benefiting from Vicon’s 1466 Nova matrix. This microprocessor-controlled unit accommodates pre-configured systems with minimum 32 inputs and 16 outputs to maximum 256 inputs and 32 outputs. The matrix offers extensive tour sequence support and there is also provision for comprehensive titling and a built-in interface for control by a host computer which is achieved through a graphical PC configurator.
