Vicon dome cameras together with the company's Aurora multiplexers and Nova matrix switchers have recently been installed at the Shanghai International Convention Centre.
With a population of approximately 12 million, Shanghai is the largest city in China and a centre of exceptional economic growth. The Shanghai Convention Centre is situated on the east bank of the Huangpu River next to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. The most striking architectural feature is the pair of enormous globes situated on either side of the building which depict the continents. The complex occupies 45,000 sq ms and in addition to the conference, exhibition and seminar facilities there are 250 hotel rooms together with extensive leisure facilities.
The Convention Centre features Vicon's Aurora multiplexers. These are available as 16 video input simplex or duplex models. They offer full PTZ telemetry control of 16 camera stations together with 480 TV lines resolution and up to 30 different multiscreen displays. Vicon's pixel interpolation techniques provide high quality digital zoom and VCR playback.
The project is also benefiting from Vicon's 1466 Nova. This is a super high density control and switching system with an internal CPU. Its software supports 256 video inputs by 32 outputs.
Four independent 16/32 bit CPUs manage alarm, titling, switching and system functions. ProTech PC Windows-based programming software is also included as standard. At this application a custom design screen was used in conjunction with the ProTech software to create a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for switching and controls.
Vicon have a major regional office in Shanghai and are therefore able to perform retrospective configuration work with minimal delay. The contract was won as a result of a public tender.
