Vicon Introduces H.264 Compression
as Part of ViconNet Capabilities

Hauppauge, NY, August 1, 2009:  Vicon Industries Inc., a leading designer and producer of integrated IP video surveillance and access control systems, announced today that its ViconNet digital video management system, including software and related hardware components, will soon provide complete support for H.264 compression.

Already, NVR-based systems operating with ViconNet software are able to accept video input from both Vicon and 3rd-party IP cameras that transmit in H.264 format. In coming months, a range of hardware, including a new generation of Kollector Network DVRs and encoders, will expand that capability to hybrid system, providing the user with a choice of converting analog inputs into Vicon’s MPEG-4 format or H.264 format.  H.264 makes use of more efficient compression algorithms, meaning that the storage required for archiving large quantities of video can be significantly reduced. With the increasing use of megapixel cameras, which – by definition – generate much larger video files, the benefits of H.264 become even more pronounced.

The new generation of products will be on display at various tradeshows throughout the coming year.  More information about Vicon and its products can be found online at www.vicon-cctv.com
